Swim BC Hires New Program Director Vancouver, BC -
July. 22, 2004
Swim BC is pleased to announce that it has hired Dan Proulx as
the new Program Director for Swim BC, effective September 1, 2004.
Dan was a competitive swimmer at the junior national level
and coached swimming at the age group provincial level in Alberta
for years with both the Cascade Swim Club and the Triathletics Sport
Club. In recent years, Dan has been coaching competitive cycling and
triathlon at the national and international levels. He has created
and managed successful development programs for cycling at the
Olympic Oval National Cycling Center – Calgary and the PacificSport
National Cycling Center – Victoria. He has also been a cross
training consultant for Canada’s national speedskating and downhill
skiing programs. Dan is a graduate of the National Coaching
Institute – Calgary.
Dan has personally developed a number
of junior national team members in both cycling and triathlon. He
has managed teams for the Canadian Cycling Association and has
coached athletes to the Junior World Championship level. In 2001, he
was a guest speaker at the World Triathlon Coaches symposium in
Edmonton.
In addition to coaching, Dan has worked in the
corporate and entrepreneurial world. He has directed his own company
and managed a professional cycling team. He has also been active as
a writer, developing content for several sport publications and
websites. He authored the triathlon specific module for the Sears “I
Can Swim” program.
Dan has maintained his interest and
appreciation for swimming throughout his career. According to
Proulx, “One of the reasons I was successful in cycling and
triathlon was that I applied the coaching skills I learned in
swimming. It’s such a positive sport. The structure and organization
[of swimming] is something that all sports could learn
from.”
Proulx feels that his swimming background and exposure
to other sports will be a strong asset in his role as Program
Director. “I have had an opportunity to work with some great
organizations and coaches in my career. I want to draw on these
experiences and contacts to develop some exciting new initiatives
for Swim BC.”
Dan will work in the Swim BC office, reporting
directly to Executive Director Mark Hahto. He will be responsible
for helping the organization to improve the level of service and
support delivered to clubs throughout the province.
